What is Cryotherapy?

Updated: Jan 31, 2020

By Caulen Lauria, Owner of Cryo Body Works

Cryotherapy is essentially an advanced form of cold therapy also known as thermogenesis for naturally stimulating the body to create nutrient and anti-inflammatory rich blood flow. It's also a uniquely powerful mind-body experience as your brain signals a hormone reset and release to support vascular constriction of blood flow to support your vital organ temperature and function. This release of high function hormones improves mental and physical performance across the board and results in an extremely invigorating and refreshing experience.

This often translates into measurable range of motion increase, pain relief, and faster healing which is why top athletes have adopted its use. Powerful results can be seen with the convenience of only 3 minutes per treatment.

How Does Cryotherapy Work?

The physical energy cost to produce this natural fight or flight response in the body is anywhere from 400-800 calories burned from the moment you step into the cryotherapy chamber to a few hours afterwards as your body replenishes itself. Cryotherapy can be used for weight loss, metabolic increase, stress relief, anxiety and depression relief, general detoxification, central nervous system support, immune support, and many more uses.

What Does Cryotherapy Do to Your Body?

Cryotherapy benefits can be extensive, although some benefits require consistency of use to produce such experience. At our facility in Austin, TX we have completed over 41,000 cryo sessions and can attest to its benefits and results! We highly suggest visiting our reviews to understand the depth of variation to benefits enjoyed. There are frequent experiences with immediate benefits such as pain relief, range of motion increase, anxiety/stress/mood relief, and more. We've also experienced individuals with chronic sleep disorders, who haven't slept a full nights rest without having to get up during the night, do a single cryotherapy treatment and find 100% relief. The combination of decreasing systemic inflammation, activating nutrient rich blood flow, and hormone resetting produces a cascading affect for various undesirable bodily conditions previously difficult to find relief for.

One interesting case at our facility was a chronic immune disorder with a severe inflammatory skin condition on a 7 year old girl. After only a month of cryotherapy treatments daily, the results were 100% eradication of the condition with confirmed follow-up 3 years after. We've also witnessed countless fibromyalgia cases with severe mobility restriction and pain find relief never experienced until doing our cryo sessions weekly up to daily.

One of our Clients Enjoying a Cryo Session!

Each session can burn sometimes up to 800 calories over the 3 hours after a treatment. As with everything, however, an effective weight loss program should incorporate a well rounded holistic approach to address all aspects of health to achieve a desired effect. Our most successful case was 32 pounds lost in one month and an additional 7 pounds the next month. This incorporated daily cryotherapy sessions, minimal infrared sauna use, one meal replaced with vegetable juicing, and an average exercise program for only half the month. While everyone is different, these are very positive results and we highly encourage people to utilize our program methods to safely and effectively reach their goals.
